What If It Gets to Be Easy?

What does it mean to live in alignment?

Sometimes, small wonders show up to remind you of what you already know. Let me offer you a recent example by way of story....

There's this particular tattoo artist who is very well known and does what I consider truly extraordinary work. I've been wanting a tattoo from him for years. There's a whole process of submitting a proposed tattoo, which he goes through a couple of times a year, choosing the projects he wants to take on. I've submitted proposals several times over the last few years, heavily researching my ideas and putting a lot of effort into each one. I've never gotten chosen before. So I just kept trying, figuring I needed to come up with a better idea or better words or whatever.

Recently he opened his books again with a slightly new policy. He's only accepting proposals once a year now. I found out about this a little late. Literally on the last day proposals were due! I had a very busy day, but I knew I wanted to get something in. I figured something was better than nothing! I thought about just copying and pasting an old proposal because it was already done. But as I sat down and lit a candle, with about 10 minutes to accomplish this task, an image of a tattoo came to mind and I thought, he would be perfect for this.

So I quickly scribbled a few sentences from that place of being genuinely excited. It wasn't anything elaborate. It wasn't researched. I didn't have some compelling backstory or deep, meaningful explanation. I didn't really say anything about me. It was just kind of like, I think you would be amazing at doing this idea I have that I would love to have…

It felt a little silly, but I was like, fuck it, and I hit send.

And then, of course, (you know where this is going!) I got an email from him saying he'd read my proposal and was choosing my idea to work on. We hopped on a video call, and he told me how, over the years, he'd gotten many, many requests for the subject matter I'd proposed but had never really been interested. But when he read what I'd written, he suddenly had a vision and got really inspired by the potential for doing something very cool with it.

He told me his idea, and of course it was the same idea I'd had when I enthusiastically wrote those few lines! We laughed about it, and our meeting took all of about five minutes because we were so totally in sync (aka: energetic alignment)

.

Afterwards, I took a few moments to go outside for a walk and really sit with the message of how that all played out.

When I tried really hard to be perfect, when I followed what I thought the "rules" were, when I focussed to sound impressive or convincing or whatever, it fell flat.

But when I spoke just a few scattered sentences that, in the end, I thought maybe didn't even make sense they landed.

They connected.

No editing, no AI, no deep research, no overthinking, no trying too hard...

It was easy! Almost too easy!

But you know what it was jam-packed with?

Feeling. Energy. Truth. Authenticity.

These are the things. These are the qualities that create alignment.

I know this, as this is how I've always operated. But sometimes the world makes you think otherwise, or makes you forget.

Our autopilot is so often:

Analyze. Formulate. Construct.

But actually, what if the opposite is what serves us more?

Be inspired. Wing it. Speak from your heart (even imperfectly). Trust your intuition.

How would we live, orchestrate our lives, or do things differently if this were the reality?

And what would it look like to take a period of time to get curious and lean into this way of being in the world?

What is here for you?

Blessings, Jeneen
