Turtle Medicine: Carrying Home With Us
Today I moved my youngest into his freshman college dorm. I’m thinking about the word bittersweet. What a beautiful word that is. This seemingly oppositional set of qualities: bitter and sweet, held together in a single word. I might add a few more words to it, making it a conglomeration of tastes in the mouth. A multisyllabic mess of sensation. Perhaps that would be more appropriate. But for now, I’ll land here. Bittersweet. This morning, before driving off with the family f

The Things We Carry

Notes from the other Side (of "social" media)
I am starting week 4 of having all social media apps deleted off my phone. To be clear, I didn't delete my accounts, and I can still hop on to post occasionally for my business (sometimes an employer asks me to) using the web portal. This feels incredibly time-consuming, cumbersome, and s-l-o-w. But that's the point. The ease of the connection and the downside of the immediacy, are what I am exploring. We tend to equate speed with efficiency and judge what's easier as better.
